After graduating with a Technical Diploma in Forest Engineering, I then finished University in Northern BC with a Degree in Forestry, I eventually earned my Professional Forester designation and began my career as a Forest Engineer on Vancouver Island. During the many years of working for the industry, I acquired a great appreciation for wood working and ultimately started a small business on the side where I tried to perfect the art of cabinetry and custom designed furniture. 

 

Over the years while working in Forestry, I lived in many small towns throughout the province and in homes that were in serious disrepair. Never been one to trust others with my high standards, I eventually acquired all the necessary skills to do things such as all forms of tiling, renovating bathrooms and kitchens, building decks and stairs etc. No doubt my knowledge and skills acquired in fine woodworking have been put to good use as I transitioned into the world of home renovations.

In 2008, I moved and settled down Maple Ridge to start a family. I worked for the BC Forest Service as a Forest Engineering Specialist until 2011 when I then decided to pursue my dream of self employment and starting up J. Murphy’s Handyman Service.

In the fall of 2013, it became obvious that my humble Handyman Service had outgrown its name and needed to be updated to better encapsulate what it is we do on a daily basis. The new name was simply a consensus between our friends, family and clients. That’s why we are now simply, J. Murphy’s Contracting. The cornerstone of our business is now Bathrooms, Kitchens and Basement Suites Construction/Renovations but we still look after the little jobs as well so call us anytime, no job is too small.
